The Empress Bass ParaEq is the only parametric EQ pedal on the market designed from the ground up specifically for bass. It delivers studio-grade tone shaping in a compact pedal format purpose-built for low-end instruments rather than adapted from guitar gear.Following the success of our Bass Compressor, and after hearing from countless players who were already using the ParaEq MKII Deluxe on bass, it became clear that bassists deserved more than a “good enough” EQ. The Bass ParaEq brings the same transparency and musical tone-sweetening that made the Deluxe a favourite, but with frequency ranges, filters, and features specifically optimized for bass.
Operating internally at 27 volts, the pedal offers massive clean headroom, ensuring pristine signal integrity even at high levels. It features three fully parametric EQ bands, each capable of ±15 dB of boost or cut, with variable bass-tuned bandwidth (Q) allowing you to shape your tone broadly and musically or with surgical precision.
The EQ bands are engineered to overlap across key bass frequency ranges, giving you powerful control over your tone. For example, you can boost around 200 Hz for added depth while cutting 300 Hz to reduce muddiness, allowing you to refine your sound to fit any mix or room. For even more precise control, the Bass ParaEq includes several essential filters:
-
high-pass filter
-
low-pass filter
-
dynamic low shelf
-
high shelf
The dynamic low shelf intelligently adjusts its break frequency depending on the amount of boost or cut applied. This provides wide, musical low-end shaping when needed and tighter sculpting when precision is required — essentially giving you multiple low-shelf behaviours in a single control. A footswitchable boost capable of up to 30 dB of gain is also included. It can operate independently or be linked to the EQ section, making it perfect for solos, dynamic passages, or cutting through the mix when needed.
Designed to work with all types of basses, including upright bass, the Bass ParaEq features a selectable 10 MΩ high-impedance (Hi-Z) input. Piezo pickups used in upright basses require extremely high input impedance to maintain their full low-end response and clarity — something traditional guitar pedals often fail to provide.
For stage and studio setups involving long cable runs, the Bass ParaEq also includes an auto-detecting balanced output. When a balanced cable is connected, the pedal automatically adapts the signal to prevent tone loss and reduce interference. With its three-band parametric EQ, precision filters, 27V internal headroom, 30 dB boost, auto-detecting balanced output, and 10 MΩ Hi-Z input, the Empress Bass ParaEq delivers a level of tone control and audio fidelity previously reserved for studio equipment — now in a pedal designed exclusively for bass players.
