Natural leather is more durable, comfortable, heat resistant, elastic, flexible and hypoallergenic, in addition to having better breathability due to its high porosity than synthetic materials. It also produces less waste as by-products, since “vegan leather” is usually made of plastic fabrics and pvc resins (polyurethane), materials with a low biodegradability, which generates a lasting residue in time and in the environment. Natural leather takes 25 to 40 years to disintegrate without posing a threat to the environment. In contrast, pvc takes approximately 300 years.
