Between the crazy delivery time, yes, this one was ordered in february 2022, and received at the end of August 2023, and the quality and authenticity of the manufacture and the finish, we understand that Pre-War Guitars has in recent years become the best of high-end acoustic instruments and the most sought-after brand of folk artists and Bluegrass musicians.

This guitar is a marvel, and to have owned old Martin OM, and often played many, you can definitely stop thinking about finding an old easy to play Martin guitar, which sounds good and which does not cost 48 ‘000 or 50’000$… because yes, an original Martin OM from the 40s, with rosewood (an OM-28…) will cost you an arm and does not promise in any way to be neither playable nor just a good guitar… It is not even the lottery, but rather the rule that these old acoustics suffered too much to still be good instruments. So of course, there are exceptions, but they will be even more expensive … And so, Pre-War Guitars, and tadaaaam, we stop looking for a vintage Martin, because there, the founders of this little high-end American brand, have done an awesome and superb result.

This OM is derived from an OM-28 from the late 1930s, and features a rosewood back and sides with superb cut and grain and veining. The top is Adirondack spruce top and again, the cut is perfect, with a little wide veins, but ultimately typical of the top of the time. The varnish and the finish are superb, patinated, and thanks to Aging Level 1.5, the instrument seems to come straight from the 40s, with weather checks, small marks, traces of play, but no blow or obviously cracks. The Adirondack bracing is roasted and the whole instrument is built according to the principle of Hot Hide Glue, animal protein glue, typical of that used for centuries and until shortly after the WWII, and quietly replaced by synthetic glue. Going back to many basics, Pre-War Guitars provides one of the best, and probably still the only brand really focused on the manufacture of the 30s and 40s.

Soundwise, well, no bullshit, it’s crazy. Very open, powerfull, with beautiful and musical mids, but above all an astonishing balance between these very ample mids and woody tones, and the bass, round, deep and precise. This OM is a marvel of OM and will know how to do everything, even muscular strumming, and as the instrument is new, not yet opened, a few hours, weeks, months of play, and it will be a bomb !!!
