Simon, the mad scientist behind Sic Boxes, stopped by the shop once again and let us try the SIC LAY DEE, his take on the analog delay, packed with incredible features and mind-blowing possibilities. We were so impressed that we decided to stock several units built with these unique specifications: a latching Footswitch B and external Tails and Dry Kill controls. And what an amazing piece of gear it is! The SIC LAY DEE is a fully analog delay capable of delaying your signal by up to approximately 600ms (100 BPM). Based on the classic Bucket Brigade Device (BBD) analog delay circuits, it goes far beyond tradition by offering numerous unconventional features designed to expand the sonic palette of these legendary circuits and inspire the creativity of the most adventurous musicians.
The footswitch functions are particularly clever. The main bypass engages the A settings (DELAY and REPEAT A), and thanks to its buffered bypass, the SIC LAY DEE allows the existing repeats to continue naturally after the effect is disengaged (spillover). Footswitch B activates the B settings (X1/2, X1, X2 and REPEAT B). This version is equipped with a momentary footswitch, remaining active only while it is pressed, allowing for unique and highly expressive effects. The X1/2 / X1 / X2 switch is another brilliant feature. When Footswitch B is engaged, it allows you to halve or double the delay time set by the Delay control.
Thanks to the analog nature of the circuit, repeats already in progress during these changes are shifted by one octave (up or down), further enhancing the acceleration or slowdown effect. In the X2 position, the delay time can reach approximately 1200ms (50 BPM), while the repeated signal gradually degrades into a texture approaching a ring modulation effect. In addition to the standard controls (DELAY, REPEAT, MIX), the pedal features a fully adjustable Modulation section (MOD) with DEPTH and SPEED controls, as well as the ability to saturate the repeats and/or soften their attack to taste.
A second footswitch (B) provides instant access to alternative REPEAT and DELAY settings, making the SIC LAY DEE an even more versatile and inspiring creative tool. If you’re looking for the unmistakable character of a true analog delay but with an extra dose of madness, the SIC LAY DEE is exactly what you need.
Specifications:
- 600ms BBD hand built Analog Delay
- Modulation with 2 controls
- REPEAT (B): number of repetitions (from 1 to infinity), active when footswitch B is engaged
- Unique SMOOTH / NORMAL / SMOOTHER: allows you to soften (or not) the attack of the repetitions to create more floating and ethereal textures
- Unique CRASH (HARD / NO / SOFT): allows you to saturate (or not) the repetitions, making them dirtier and more vibrant. It proves particularly useful and enriching when used in self-oscillation contexts
- X1/2 / X1 / X2: Active when footswitch B is engaged, this setting allows you to halve or double the delay length set by the Delay potentiometer
- Optional TAILS and DRY KILL switches
- only external 9Volts power supply operation, no battery (power supply not incl.)
- 13x12x7cm dimensions
- Hand Made in Switzerland, 5 years warranty when registered online
