A real workhorse, this 1952 Gibson L4… Well, that this instrument is to guitars what Arnold von Winkerlied was to the Waldstätten, the guy who takes the blows for others… So yes, this brave and proud Gibson was beten up but ended up with only a centerseam split under the trapeze and one other on the top, and no breaks or repairs. Sceatches, dents, marks and obviously playwear everywhere testify to all the scenes and studio sessions that the beauty has done. It belonged to Paul Sutin, owner of Dinemec studios and Paul Sutin Production, and comes with a certificate signed by Paul detailing the history. Thus Alan Parsons, Daryl Stuermer or Nile Rodgers recorded and played this instrument.
How cool to see such antique guitars (sorry for the septuagenarians) so easily playable, comfortable and delivering this kind of unique timbres. These L4s with F Holes were manufactured from 1934 to 1956… So here we are with a non-cutaway L4, in a super rare original Ebony finish, original from 1952… Obviously a specially ordered instrument, the Ebony finish was a option.
This 1952 L4 looks great but has obviously been played its entire life, with its original frets in good condition, perfectly playable. The parts are original, pickguard, trapeze, tuners and bridge. A modern strap button has been affixed to the heel of the guitar and the guitar comes in a fully functional 80s Taylor hardcase. This guitar will satisfy both the collector and the musician. The neck is comfortable, quite big but really playable. In terms of timbre, everything is good, no vibration or other loose dam, no dead notes, and above all, this timbre typical of ragtime or blues guitars of yesteryear, superb.
