Wow, how heavy does this bass sound!!! This 2013 Dusty Hill Signature Precision Bass comes straight from the Custom Shop, of course, and was initially released as a limited edition of only 50 pieces in Firemist Gold… And then came the black ones !! The legendary ZZ Top bassist is a fan of custom instruments, just like his partner Billy Gibbons. Shortly before 2012, through the Fender Custom Shop, discussions were underway about a Signature Series based on a 1951 Precision Bass, and following the 2012 limited edition in Firemist Gold, Fender produced the Black Relic version on request. The bass we are offering is part of the first run of these Black Relic finishes. A rare and fabulous bass indeed.
The body is made of lightweight, hand-selected ash, as you would expect from the Custom Shop. The neck is maple with a reversed headstock for a striking look. The neck plate is engraved with “The Dust” along with two horns reminiscent of Texan longhorn cattle—no denying its roots. The finish is Relic, as if the instrument came straight from the 1950s and bore the marks of rehearsals and tours. The single pickup comes from Seymour Duncan’s Custom Shop. It’s a stacked model—meaning a humbucker with coils placed on top of each other instead of side-by-side. This gives more punch and less background noise. Controls are simple: one volume and one tone. Unlike the original model, the pots are rear-mounted, with no control plate. All hardware is vintage-style, from the two-saddle bridge to the open-gear tuners.
This pre-owned instrument is in like-new condition, collected and clearly seldom played, with no playwear, marks, or signs of use. Frets are new, action is perfect, and the weight is super light. In short, this 2013 Custom Shop Dusty Hill Signature Precision Bass is a marvel, complete with COA, accessories (polish cloth, Cruz Tool, and strap), hangtags, and original case.
