Here is finally something really new and above all damn effective!! The young French company Kernom will blow you away with their unique and patented Analog Morphing Core. It’s simply the ability to deliver an infinite amount of overdrive circuits, or rather analog clipping emulation. The principle was to simulate all the non-linear elements of the overdrive or distortion stages on the market, these elements being diodes, which clip / saturate according to the values they deliver, Kernom intelligently studied of all kinds of diode assemblies (which in the end make the different types of overdrives and distortion, depending on the brands and their models) and thanks to their studies, to the morphing of everything they have analyzed and to their unique button MOOD offering almost all kinds of clipping on the market, symmetric, asymmetric, high headroom, very compressed, soft or hard clipping, their RIDGE pedal delivers an infinite amount of overdrives and distortions. The RIDGE is finally like a signal clipping circuit, 100% analog, but with digital intensity variator on the diodes which will create the saturations. It’s as if you had in a single pedal a multitude of diodes as well as all the intermediate nuances. Ingenious, resolutely new and unique and above all effective!!!
Thanks to the MOOD button allowing to control this principle of clipping, and according to a symmetrical, asymmetrical clipping, offering more or less headroom, delivering a perfectly clean boost or a well compressed and modern distortion, while adjusting the usual controls of gain and volume, the Kernom RIDGE does it all and does it admirably well. And imagine that overdrive, Clean Boost, Fuzz or other super modern distortion, we have heaps of them and have tried countless of them… Kernom has the almost ultimate solution, except that a purist will probably want always have 23 pedals on your feet, including its favorite green, its most expensive ugly one, its most aggressive black with orange writing and so on… But the Kernom RIDGE does it all.
The EQ part is very simple, a MID button, that’s all. Indeed, with this simple midrange pot, you cover all the needs of the overdrive stage (or clean Boost or Fuzz or… ok, you understand) brings to the amp on which you will connect the RIDGE. Let’s face it, you have an EQ stage on your amp… On the other hand, the Kernom RIDGE also has 2 unique knobs, one of PRE TONE which adjusts the sensitivity of the guitar’s dynamics before reaching the d stage. signal clipping (therefore the MOOD), and the other POST TONE pot which determines the timbre of the signal coming out of the MOOD, typically more defined or fuller, fat. The RIDGE, although requiring a standard 9 volt external power supply, can deliver an internal voltage of up to 30 volts to push your amp to its limit.
The Kernom RIDGE has its ON/OFF switch and a PRESET switch, thus switching from one to the other of the Preset accessible to manual settings directly on the pedal. But as the RIDGE is fully MIDI compatible, you can recall up to 128 presets via an external controller, for guitar, bass, synths or even voice, the signal can be line or instrument level depending on the needs. The pedal is ready to take on the stage with its sturdy aluminum chassis and the ability to add an expression pedal that can instantly change drive levels and/or mids.
You got it, the RIDGE does it all, and amazingly well too. One of the most awaited pedals for a while, no doubt that the Kernom RIDGE will make a name for itself!!!
