Here is a gem… Altman Guitars is a small family workshop located in Florida and which has been offering very high-end instruments since the mid-90s. Bob Altman and his two sons build a few pieces a year, and the craftmanship as well as the sound of their instruments are benchmarks in the very select world of high-end luthiers.
this superb A-D 3.5 was built in the summer of 2021 and many options have been selected. Thus the sunburst, the Adirondack Old Stock spruce top, more than 13 years old, and especially the back and sides in Old Growth Brazilian Rosewood, a wood that grew naturally in its usual / wild environment in the Amazon and which was cut before all who can still read this were born.. These woods are awesome!!
Plenty of other options, such as style 42 top purfling, style 45 back trim, style 45 neck inlays and a Fern type headstock inlay. This superb guitar is beautiful but not too fancy. Soundwise, this instrument is a cathedral and delivers ample and defined bass, lot of volume and a beautiful articulation. Typically a songwriter’s or singer’s instrument, and you can yell!!! The neck is superb, but not for all hands, with a nut announced at 1 3/4, with the bindings, the nut measures 4 mm more, we are between a 1 3/4 and a 1 7/8, more close to the usual 1 3/4. The profile is round and ample and super comfy if you have big hands.
Second hand instrument, cherished by its previous owner (who advertised it on the net for $35,000…), which came to us in like-new condition, without dents or anything. A normal A-D 3 with a standard spruce top and anything but Brazilian back and sides already costs $13,950 before options, taxes and other shipping costs, and takes 16 to 18 months to manufacture… So there you go, this A-D3.5 is a bargain and will delight the hearts and ears of lovers of beautiful acoustic guitars.
