Wow, how beautifu and how crazy this guitar is… I had bid on other instruments during the Skinner sale in 2006, and stayed on the phone listening to the Skinner bids go up on the 1959 Original Burst. Indeed, the original Les Paul from 1959 with serial number 9-1951 reached $292,000 and has since been commonly called Skinner Burst… It was Joe Bonamassa who won the auction and since then this guitar has become an icon in the world of the original Les Paul. In 2014, Gibson set about faithfully reproducing the Skinner Burst, and 100 pieces were made by Tom Murphy for the Aged version, of which here is a superb example which was subsequently signed by Joe Bonamassa. This superb guitar, clean and barely played, is above all truly fabulous and delivers incredible comfort and sound.
Gibson didn’t even take the time to put the Aged and Aged & Signed versions on their site because they were sold out before they were even produced. The Skinner Burst is one of Joe’s favorite guitars, and his collection of ’59s is truly monstrous. This Les Paul Aged is a marvel, both in terms of manufacturing and weight and above all obviously the sound and playing comfort. Yes, really, these Ageds by Tom Murphy are above the others and there are the initials of the famous luthier on our instrument… In addition, this Gibson Joe Bonamassa Les Paul Skinner Burst Aged has a superb top, with regular flaming and large, pronounced veins. And to top it off, our guitar is light, only 3.8 kilos. Well, to really top it off, this guitar was signed by Joe Bonamassa during a concert, by its first owner. We have two printed photos from this event. This instrument was then sold by Ten Guitars and recently offered for sale by Omega Musique. Here it is at Leadmusic, and having had an Aged & Signed in my hands for 5 years in my personal collection, I can assure you that this guitar is in every way similar to the 50 copies of the Aged & Signed series…
This rare guitar is in original Gibson Custom Shop condition and has clearly been played very little. Frets in new condition. Complete this superb and rare Gibson Les Paul Skinner Burst Aged comes with its original hardcase, documents, COA, photos of the meeting with Joe Bonamassa and hangtags.
