This is an exceptional guitar, splendid and with woods to die for. Soundwise, this beauty is a beast, and is offering playing comfort worthy of the best Archtops. This guitar is the first 17” Archtop made by Maurice Dupont, at the request of a very good French musician. It was in early 2004 that the excellent guitarist Patrick Peillon commissioned Maurice Dupont for a 17” Archtop. At that time, the French luthier was obviously known for his gypsy guitars, and also somewhat renowned for his Weissenborns. The order at the time revolves around an Archtop blond type L5, 17′ body width’, with floating pickup, carved spruce top and flamed maple back and sides. The result is beautiful and has for almost 20 years, the pride and joy of the french guitarist. Subsequently, Maurice Dupont introduced to his catalog the Archtop under the name of Arpege, available in both 16” and 17′ body width.
This guitar has woods to die for, with monstrous veining and patterns for the back and neck, and perfect woodgrain for the spruce top. The woodcut, the workmanship, the varnish, everything is exceptional, and this guitar is a marvel to play, with a comfortable, round neck, typical of the Archtop necks of the mid-50s, not too big but super comfy in the hand. The fretjob is also perfect, and shows almost no trace of play, the beauty having been played with flatwound strings almost all of its life. Despite many gigs and sessions, this guitar is in excellent condition, with minimal marks and playwear, without noticeable dents or damage. Excellent condition for this magnificent Archtop which will soon celebrate its 20th anniversary.
Delivered with its original hardcase and a copy of the documents of the order.
