Information:

There are certain benchmark years for the ES-335—namely the late 1950s. Yet from time to time, instruments far more affordable than those Holy Grails of the ’50s emerge and have absolutely nothing to be ashamed of when compared to their illustrious predecessors. Such is the case with this 1971 Gibson ES-335 TD Walnut, a truly remarkable guitar, both in terms of tone, playing comfort, and the overall impression it leaves.

This 1971 ES-335 is in superb condition. In fact, the only notable signs of age are the weather checking in the finish; there are virtually no dings or scratches, no damage, and no repairs. To top it all off, this little gem sports a perfect Walnut finish, still vibrant and exceptionally clean.

Available at the time with either a stop tailpiece, a trapeze tailpiece, or a Bigsby vibrato, the ES-335 underwent several changes from 1965 onward, particularly to the neck profile. The neck on this original 1971 ES-335 features a fairly rounded C-shaped profile and a nut width of 40.3 mm. The frets are original and remain in excellent condition, showing no significant wear or damage and retaining ideal height. The playing comfort is phenomenal. This ES-335 is entirely original: tuners, frets, pickups (Patent Number humbuckers), electronics, finish, and hardware. Lightweight and resonant, it delivers the snap and articulation one expects from an ES model, while offering a warmth and depth that we simply do not find in more recent production models. The difference is striking. The tone is fuller, rounder, and more powerful. It retains the characteristic attack and precision of an ES-335, but with an enhanced richness and warmth. Quite simply, it is better.

The instrument is in excellent condition, with only a few scattered surface scratches and one or two minor dings here and there. There is no exposed wood, no breaks or structural damage, and no modifications or repairs. Truly excellent condition. This killer axe comes with its original case.
