This 2015 Gibson Custom Shop Les Paul R9 Reissue Made to Measure is simply an outstanding guitar, especially considering its attractive price, and one that makes an immediate impression from the very first moment you pick it up. This goes well beyond an already excellent standard R9: the Made to Measure program allows for exceptional wood selection, and this guitar is a perfect example of that. The flamed maple top is absolutely stunning—deep, even, with striking relief and three-dimensionality—beautifully enhanced by a sumptuous Dirty Lemon Burst, bright, refined, and evocative of the finest vintage Bursts without ever being overdone. The finish lets the wood breathe and gives the instrument a rare, elegant, and incredibly inspiring visual presence.

But this guitar isn’t just about looks. It sounds absolutely killer!! The tone is wide open and rich in harmonics, with that unmistakable great Les Paul character: full, deep lows, open and singing mids, and smooth highs that are never harsh. Every note is well defined, and the dynamics are impressive, whether you’re playing mellow blues, vintage rock, or more powerful styles.
