A rare and legendary piece from the Fender Custom Shop, built in 1989 in only 500 units to pay tribute to the famous HLE Homer Haynes ’57 Strat. This series was only the second limited edition ever released by Fender, following the 1979 Anniversary Strat, and it comes straight from the Art Esparza era, one of the most sought-after periods among collectors.
Its solid alder body, along with its maple neck and fingerboard, delivers the punch and clarity typical of the finest 1950s Stratocasters. Equipped with its original Custom Shop Staggered Pole Single Coils, it offers a stunningly authentic tone — clear, articulate, and full of vintage character. But of course, it’s the woods that make it sing: the lightweight, resonant alder body (even if you can’t see it beneath the gold finish) and the beautifully cut maple neck, both contributing to exceptional comfort and feel. It features a 50s-style Soft V profile, 7.25″ radius, 21 vintage frets, and that unmistakable Strat playability that made history. The gold hardware completes the look — vintage-style tuners, 6-screw synchronized tremolo, bone nut, anodized gold pickguard, and classic white “top hat” knobs.
This guitar is in very good overall condition, showing only minimal signs of age: frets are like new, just a few almost invisible marks, and a beautiful weather checking pattern in the finish — exactly what a true vintage guitar should look like. 1988… can we already call that vintage? Probably yes.
This splendid, exceptionally well-preserved instrument comes with its original certificate, some case candy, and its original tweed hard case.
