Maurice Dupont has long been recognized as the absolute master of Gypsy jazz guitars in France. But his talent doesn’t stop there: he also builds archtops that easily rival the best names in jazz guitar making. And this ATTM 17 is a little gem that proves the point: X-braced spruce top, flamed maple back and sides, flamed maple neck, ebony headstock veneer, bridge and heel cap, plus maple binding. Hardware includes Schaller tuners, an ebony cello-style tailpiece, and a mounted humbucker. The look is directly inspired by the clean, modern design that Jimmy D’Aquisto made legendary in the 1980s (stylized f-holes and pickguard, cello-style tailpiece, dotless fingerboard, etc.).
Built entirely from solid woods, this 17″ archtop delivers a rich tone that translates beautifully through its humbucker. Warm, round, and defined, the natural acoustic resonance blends seamlessly with the power and sustain of the amplified sound. A super versatile guitar, perfect for swing, bebop, and even electric Gypsy jazz. Needless to say, we’re in pure jazz territory here. The instrument is in excellent condition, with just a few tiny marks on the body and some very light fretwear—barely noticeable.
If this archtop carried the name of a famous American luthier, it would easily sell for ten times the price, yet it holds its ground against any D’Aquisto or the like. In short: a golden opportunity to grab a world-class archtop at a price that seems almost too good to be true.
