Oh wow… a 1975 Gibson L5S Sunburst in superb condition – that’s not something you stumble across every day! This is the solid body take on the legendary L5 jazzbox, launched in the early ’70s to offer a more modern and punchy alternative to Gibson’s big classics. In the end, the L5S is a rare bird, a guitar apart, sitting right at the crossroads: the luxury and elegance of the L5, but with a (chambered) solid body – otherwise it would weigh a ton – and a definite rock’n’roll vibe.
The craftsmanship is pure Gibson at its finest, and the woods are just gorgeous: stunning flamed maple, classy archtop-style binding on the top and back, ebony fingerboard, flawless finish… top-of-the-line stuff. And that 1975 sunburst has aged with just the right amount of patina to look magnificent without losing its shine. Tone-wise? Absolute killer. The original Gibson humbuckers deliver deep lows, great definition and a super cool attack. And yeah, you can thank the all-maple construction for that. Jazz, blues, rock or funk – this L5S handles it all with style and personality… though honestly, we’d love to throw it into stoner territory just for fun.
This one has survived the decades beautifully: straight neck, frets in great shape (polished, a bit low, with just tiny hints of playwear here and there), and of course, the electronics are spot on. Pickups and wiring are original, nothing has been touched, soldering is perfect. And bonus: it’s light, only 3.85 kilos!
In short, a clean, elegant and fiercely musical 1975 L5S Sunburst – a guitar that blends history, style and killer looks. A collector’s piece you can actually play every day – and that’s rare.
