The magic of the Les Paul with a one piece mahogany body!!! This guitar is phenomenal, light, resonant and with crazy mids and a gnarly attack, what a gem!! It was in 2014 that Gibson tackled this excellent idea, bringing out the best Les Paul Custom worthy of the early 50s productions. The Gibson Custom Robby Krieger 1954 Les Paul Custom is a careful reissue of the guitar played by Robby Krieger on the Doors’ hit song, L.A. Woman. When the original guitar first appeared in 1968, it became a constant writing, gigging and recording companion for the famous Doors guitarist, and through close collaboration between Robby and the Gibson Custom Shop, a very limited number of hand-crafted replicas of the Robby Krieger 1954 Les Paul Custom were produced in 2014. The first 50 guitars, hand-aged by Gibson, were played, approved and signed by Robby himself. It is one of these instruments, number 30, Aged & Signed, that we are offering for sale.

Forget the current Murphy Aged versions from the Gibson Custom Shop and the excessive marketing of the company, which for several years has been delivering new Murphy Aged models every 3 or 4 weeks. There, for this Aged and Signed series, each of the Robby Krieger 1954 Les Paul Customs has been recreated based on a hands-on examination, digital scan, photographs, measurements and a study of the Les Paul of Robby to ensure that each guitar is as close to the original as possible, and most importantly Robby Krieger followed the process and played and signed all 50 instruments selected for the Aged & Signed run. But Gibson had really set the bar high, and the quality of the craftmanship reflects it. This includes a solid mahogany body, whose top, obviously in mahogany, has the typical profile of the early 50s, with a top carve different from usual productions. This also includes the vintage ’54 profile mahogany neck with an extended neck tenon and animal glue construction, the famous hide-glue revered by high-end luthiers, the ebony fingerboard with aged pearloid block inlays, vintage multi-layer varnish and careful hand aging. Other key features include, like the original guitar, the combination of a classic pre-PAF P-90 pickup in the bridge and a Seymour Duncan Mini Humbucker in the neck. The P90 can do everything, clear and smooth jazz lines with the tone pot, and obviously the classic and angry timbres of the P90 with a little grain.The Mini Humbucker delivers a clearer, brighter, more precise sound than your typical humbucker pickup.

Our example is number 30 in a series of 50 guitars aged by the Gibson Custom Shop and signed by Robby Krieger and is in the same condition as when it left the Gibson factory, complete with its original case , its documents and its certificate of authenticity. The guitar, perfect for a Doors fan, is above all a marvel of sound and comfort with its wide and round neck, and delivers tones and sustain that a Les Pauls with a maple top do not have. This Custom 54 is a marvel and will successfully complete any Gibson collection, and as it’sone of the lightest Les Paul we had, it’s a real joy to hold and play.
