Mojo. That’s it, all is said, the description of this beauty could end now… Ok, I’ll give you a few details anyway… We got this instrument in 2019, it was then entirely original but with a very damaged finish and some cracks and repairs needed. Immediately sold to a friend, an extremely good musician, this splendid L-12 from 1936 was stripped, repaired and revarnished in an ebony satin finish. The frets were profiled, the tuners replaced and a new pickguard with floating pickup was fitted. The beauty is thus a magnificent player and delivers crazy tone and playing comfort.
This version with a body 17” wider than the previous versions, has a craftmanship and woods to die for, as the solid spruce top, the back and sides in figured maple (ok, with the new black satin finish we don’t see more of the veins…) and a solid mahogany neck with a Rio rosewood fingerboard. In short, we have everything from the L5, but obviously with the refinish and the recent parts, we find ourselves at a quarter of the price of these Archtop benchmarks from the 30s. But what a gem, really!!!
L-12s are rare, there are no details regarding the production of these instruments in the 1930s, but when less than a hundred L5s were made between 1935 and 1941 and from 1948 to 1955, only 119 L-12s were manufactured, we then have an idea of the rarity of these instruments.
This superb guitar comes with its original case in good condition, with the handle recently redone.
