I first saw this guitar at NAMM 2025, alongside Dweezil Zappa, and then completely forgot about it… And then, when I was chatting with Dweezil at NAMM 2026, he reminded me that it was his Shabat-built signature model that had caught my attention a year earlier.

The Lynx DZ is a faithful reproduction of Dweezil’s heavily modded Shabat Lynx model, including his body-mounted HSS configuration with a push/pull phase shift on the middle pickup, simplified single-knob layout, custom-cut 3-ply parchment/gold pickguard, and fitted with a Vega-Trem VT1 tremolo. Shabat is becoming an increasingly important player in the scene. This Stratocaster-inspired model delivers a level of playability, tuning stability, and feel that Fender has never achieved and never will… Yes, yes, yes!

Built with a lightweight alder body, this Shabat Lynx offers truly remarkable natural resonance. The attack is precise, and the overall balance is spot-on. The quartersawn maple neck ensures outstanding stability and optimal playing comfort. Its Medium C profile feels instantly familiar, while the 9.5″–12″ compound radius allows for effortless playing, whether you’re strumming chords or digging into the most expressive solos. Naturally, this combination is perfect for modern playing styles and some seriously outrageous bends.

The contoured neck heel provides easy access to the upper frets, while the 25.5″ Fender-style scale length ensures ideal string tension and precision. The guitar is equipped with a TUSQ nut, 22 Dunlop Nickel Steel 6105 frets, and Kluson tuners. As for the bridge, it features what I consider the best tremolo system in the world, made by the Spanish company Vega-Trem. It is an absolute benchmark for tuning stability and precision, and above all, for its incredibly smooth feel and ease of use.

The high-end electronics feature Seymour Duncan JD Signature pickups, designed exclusively for Shabat and guitarist Justin Derrico, paired with CTS potentiometers and Orange Drop capacitors. The result is a rich, dynamic, and exceptionally musical tonal palette. From crystal-clear cleans to more muscular tones, this guitar has it all. Visually, the Lynx DZ is stunning, with a Nitrocellulose Black finish enhanced by a beautifully executed Heavy Aged treatment. The unique custom pickguard and matching headstock further reinforce its distinctive character and unmistakably high-end look.
