What a beauty and a rare bird !! Dick Dale Custom Shop Stratocasters aren’t seen on the streets that often and this superb instrument pays homage to the sound and style of the self-proclaimed King of Surf guitar, with features such as a select alder body, a beautifully figured maple neck in a special shape with reverse headstock, a rosewood fingerboard and three Custom ’50 pickups with special switching.
Dick Dale, whose real name is Richard Anthony Monsour, had a long career and a partnership with Fender which began in 1960. Self-proclaimed King of Surf, this fabulous guitar player composed “Miserlou” in 1962. This title is a reference and everyone in the world has known him since….the Quentin Tarantino film “Pulp Fiction” released in 1994. The use of the 60s hit popularized Dick Dale with a new audience and the surfer, armed with his new Custom Shop Gold Sparkle, then seemed to be able to tickle Clapton or other guitar references. But his health problems, his lifestyle and finally the dazzling of his newfound popularity led him to perform on stage until his death in 2019. Although very popular in the USA, Dick Dale never really broke through elsewhere.
This guitar is a marvel, still in mint condition, still with its protective plastic on the pickguard and simply no playwear of any kind whatsoever. The only marks of time are a slight impression in the varnish around the neck pocket, like an infiltration of air in the varnish, which makes it slightly milky over a few centimeters. Impossible to photograph and almost imperceptible, this defect is the only one that betrays the 10 years of this splendid guitar. This gem is super comfortable, light and above all has a spectacular neck, with rather crazy veins and patterns, between the birdseye and the quilt maple.
The beauty comes with its original hardcase, its hangtags and documents and its COA.
