Another rare and beautiful instrument from the collection of Paul Sutin, owner of the Dinemec and Paul Sutin Production studios, and which comes with a certificate signed by Paul recounting its history. This guitar, acquired new in 1972, was one of the central pieces of Paul’s recordings in various studios, and was used by numerous artists on numerous takes. In 1982, Steve Howe of the band YES organized the return of this guitar to the Martin factory in Nazareth for a complete set-up and refresh, then in 2009, Bryan Adams’s guitar technician had a Piezo pickup installed for the concert of the illustrious Canadian artist in Geneva in participation in a charity event with Phil Collins.
This superb and very clean Martin D28 from 1972 has typical Martin specifications from this decade but delivers perfect tone and comfort for dynamic playing requiring volume. A solid Sitka spruce top, with scalloped top bracing and solid Indian rosewood back and sides. The bridge and fingerboard are made of ebony and the headstock veneer is made of rosewood. The decoration is sober, with Moon fretboard markers. It’s simple and beautiful. Grover tuners complete these specifications and everything has a typical vintage Martin look.
This guitar has been played and has scratches, light dents and playwear here and there. A few light scratches on the top, small and discreet scratches on the back and sides, but no damage or cracks. The frets are in very good condition, the neck angle and playing comfort are excellent, as is the sound, as you can imagine. This instrument has volume and definition and comes with its original case and Paul Sutin’s COA.
