Information:

Ouch, where to start … Exceptional 1923 Weissenborn Style 4 in perfect playing condition, no vibration or dead spot, and features one of the most incredibly flamed koa seen on an original vintage Weissenborn. In short, there have been dozens of luthiers for a few decades who have been doing good jobs, but being able to afford the real deal, and which in addition is perfectly playable and sounds great, it would be stupid to deprive yourself and miss this exceptional instrument.

Hermann C. Weissenborn built Hawaiian guitars, now commonly known as Weissenborn, during the heyday of these instruments, and was the best of the luthiers of the time. With several models to his assortment, Style 4 as the spearhead and fanciest of the brand, the famous luthier based in San Francsico has marked generations of musicians since the revival of the 80s / 90s which saw the birth of David Lindleys. and others Ben Harper. It’s simple, these guitars, if you don’t have one, you will never have that tone or that blissful pleasure that comes from playing them.

Our Weissenborn Style 4 dates from 1923 and has certain specifications which were quickly abandoned because of the costs and manufacturing time they represented, so our instrument still has the Varnish varnish which seems slightly satin and less thick than the varnishes used by the following. It also has the bridge a little more rounded. The burned-in brand on the inside of the wood of the back, and the logo of the distributor Henry Stadlmaier is also inscribed inside, all this allows us to date it from 1923 exactly … We typically speak of 1916 to 1922 for a first period, 1923 to 1927 for a second and finally 1927 to 1937 for the last period of production, during which probably Hermann C. Weissenborn worked alone, having according to the accounts found after his death no longer had enough money to pay employees. In short, when we know that Weissenborn’s high production estimate, all models combined, is 1,500 to 2,000 copies, how many are left nowadays? Some comes regularly for sale on the net, but with such a koa, and these specifications typical of the first production.

This stunning Weissenborn Style 4 has woods to die for, with wide grain and even, gorgeous patterns. Some repairs have been made over the decades, so a slight center seam has been glued back onto the top and one on the side, a new neck nut has been made and all the braces have been checked, checked and glued if needed in 2018. Perfect to play, and sounding really good, very ample and fat but with a very good definition and a pretty good projection, this Hawaiian guitar will take you into registers so cool that you will hate yourself for waiting so long before finally owning a real Weissenborn from the 20s …

Comes with a modern case.
